FIRST TIME GETTING LASH EXTENSIONS

I wrote this about 12 years ago but it still applies!

I got eyelash extensions for the first time EVER and I just wanted to share my experience.  Before the big day, I did a lot of research and had a lot of questions. I'm the type of person who over thinks every big decision, so I decided to write a blog about it because I'm sure there are a lot of you out there with questions as well!

So if you've never tried it and you want to know more about the process, I hope you'll keep reading.

This was before the lash application.

As you can tell I'm obsessed and I am officially hooked on eyelash extensions!

I'm not going to lie, I was a little scared going into it because it's a new experience especially when it involves people touching your eyes. But lash extensions, are so convenient because they give you such a flawless look. This morning when I woke up, I spent 3 minutes on my makeup routine, and that was adding a hint of blush and highlighter to my face. Even without makeup, the eyelash extensions give you a no-makeup makeup look.

I've always wondered what the application process was like. After the treatment, I realized there were a lot of things I was misinformed about before getting extensions. I always thought you weren't allowed to wear makeup after the application and that you weren't allowed to wet your lashes.  However, I learned that you can wear lash extension safe makeup as long as you are cleaning your lashes well every night.

It's actually very important for you to clean your lashes at least 2 to 3 times a week as it helps them last longer.  Cleansing your lashes is important to keep makeup and oil away from breaking down the adhesive that holds the extensions in place.

HOW DOES THE EYELASH EXTENSION PROCESS WORK?

  • The artist places a  gel pad over the bottom lashes and then uses a sensitive medical tape to secure it in place.  Doing so keeps the bottom lashes out of their way and protects the skin from the lash tweezers they are using.

  • The eyelash application then begins: Each extension is placed on an individually isolated natural lash.

  • Depending on your eye shape and the strength of your natural lashes the artist can decide what length and thickness would look best for you.

  • The lash artist dips the extension into the adhesive and immediately places it onto the isolated lash.  It can take the glue for eyelash extensions 1-2 seconds to cure (dry) depending on the humidity.

There is a lot of hard work and patience that goes into your lash extensions! You get to do the easy work because you just have to relax on a comfortable table for 1-3 hours, depending on how long it takes your artist to apply your lashes. A lot of clients even end up falling asleep through this process. Artists call them "Lash Naps".

If you are looking to get your lashes done, I would highly recommend it. You can try the classic or the volume look. . Classic lashes are perfect for clients who already have a lot of lashes, but want to add more length. Classic lashes look more natural. I opted for volume because I typically wear strip lashes every day and I'm in love with the result.
